BEST OVERALL STORY*
The stories nominated in this category are those that have, through the public nomination process, received the most overall votes.

BEST AUTHOR*
The authors nominated in this category are those that have, through the public nomination process, received the most overall votes for any or all of their nominated works.

THE CAVERN CLUB AWARD
This category is for the nomination of stories that have been considered the first to read for those who are new to the fandom, the most highly and frequently recommended, and those considered to be the piece de` resistance of Beatles slash fiction.

BEST SERIES/SAGA
Two or more stories that are linked in some way, mainly through plot and character. Prequels and sequels fall under this category.

BEST STAND-ALONE STORY
An individual story with no prequels, sequels or spinoffs.

BEST AU STORY
A story featuring or set in a world that is significantly different from The Beatles' canon. This can include time periods, eg. setting The Beatles in the Stone Age or in present day.

BEST PWP/VIGNETTE
Any story that is predominantly sex-driven and does not contain any plausible plot - aka. "Plot? What Plot?" or "Plot Without Point". A vignette is a single scene, and usually depicts a sexual act in the slash genre. Also known as Smut.

BEST THREESOME/ORGY STORY
A story that involves sex between three or more people. Can involve two Beatles and a fan, or all four Beatles enjoying a ménage-à-trois.

BEST CROSSOVER STORY
A story involving interaction and plot weaving between characters from more than one fandom - eg. having The Beatles meet The Monkees.

BEST ROMANTIC STORY
Does romance really need a definition? For categorizing purposes, a romantic story is one wherein the plot is driven by the development of a loving relationship. Sexual interaction may or may not be depicted.

BEST COMEDIC STORY
A story that is written to be intentionally funny. This can also be a parody.

BEST ANGST STORY
A story that is emotionally wrenching or stories where a character deals with an emotionally distressing situation.

BEST BDSM OR NON-CON STORY
A story that features non-consensual sex or consensual BDSM. BDSM means consensual bondage, dominance/submission, sadism/masochism etc. These elements have been merged into one category in order to make the categories more broad.

BEST 'FABBLE'
A story that is exactly 100 or 250 words long (depending on story and specific challenge), usually written in response to a challenge.

BEST WORK-IN-PROGRESS
This category is especially for stories that have yet to be completed by the closing date of the nomination period. This does not include a story as part of a series - if only part of a series has been completed, then it can only be nominated in this category.

BEST ARTWORK/PHOTO MANIPULATION
This category is for any pieces of art depicting a romantic and/or sexual relationship involving one or more of The Beatles. This can be digital, hand-drawn or layered together with Photoshop.

BEST PHOTO-FIC
This category is for any story which was inspired by a particular photograph or artwork of The Beatles (can include stories inspired by a nominated piece of art or photo manipulation).

BEST SONGFIC
A story generally set around the words of a particular song (normally a Beatles song). Usually not very long, most of the plot or emotion comes from the words of the songs, and the characters are written to fit around that.
