As luck would have it, I had already had a trip planned to NY, when I found out that Maxwell Caulfield would be appearing in My Deah. My Deah HeaderThe really cool thing was it was opening weekend!

Upon arriving I checked with one of the theatre workers because I was going to send a note backstage to Maxwell, but she said that all the performers usually come out to the lobby area after the show.  So, I decided to catch him then. The play, which could be touted as the Southern version of  Medea, clocks in at 90 minutes in length.  Maxwell portrays the character of Gatar, an ex-football star and cheating husband.

After the show I went to the lobby to wait.  As most of  the cast began filtering out…I was able to meet up with Maxwell. He remembered me from the Hollywood Collectors Show a couple of years ago.  We talked for a few minutes and I got a couple of  photos (see below) of him standing next to the play’s poster. He invited me to a café that some of the other actors from the play were going to so we could continue our chat. How cool is that?

"We talked about Grease 2 and
what the cast is up to now."

So, off we went!  As we were walking, we passed a motorcycle parked on the street and Maxwell stopped.  He looked at me and asked what I thought about taking a photo of him with the motorcycle for the G2 fans.  I said “Let’s go do it!”  So, we took the shots, hoping that the owner wouldn’t come out yelling at us for using the bike.

When we got to the café, Maxwell introduced me to the rest of the My Deah cast that were there and then we got a table to ourselves and ordered some drinks.  We talked about Grease 2 and what the cast is up to now.  Maxwell informed me that Chris McDonald had just started back in Chicago on Broadway! We also spoke about Michelle in the new Hairspray, Peter on stage, Alison's Restaurant, Pamela's HBO series and Leif's AIDS Walk work.  As we reminisced, Maxwell could hardly believe that next year would be the 25th anniversary of Grease 2.  They've all come so far since 1982.

We chatted about his plays, My Deah & Tryst.  He told me that he and his Tryst costar almost got killed during rehearsals.  A 2000 lb. wall fell, just missing both of their heads. Maxwell was supposed to open up an umbrella and he was having a problem getting it open.  If he hadn’t been delayed by that, they both would have been killed.

We also talked about his Colbys co-stars, Reality TV (he likes Dancing with the Stars,) and the entertainment business in general. Our time together lasted well over an hour and then we parted ways.

I must say that the time spent with him was the best part of my trip. Maxwell is just the sweetest and “coolest” guy.
